Commenting AI Chatbot Use by the Elderly

I participated on an interview on Radio-Canada’s Première Chaîne Saskatchewan, interviewed by Nico Pévy on Tout Compris on July 23. I discussed the introduction of Pauline, an AI Chatbot that interacts with elderly people suffering from neurocognitive troubles. The product has been deployed in 70 senior houses across Québec. The goal of Pauline, developed by the startup Amical IA is to fill a void when residents have fewer humans interactions. The chatbot asks questions about the patient’s past, encourage them to think, and to tell their story. The founder of Amical notes that the product is being monitored by a secondary system (presumably a secondary large language model) for any conversation that would go in undesirable directions.
