I am not outraged

Philippe Beaudoin · April 19, 2026

There are a lot of things I would change about the world if I was somehow forced to come up with a way to organize it. I’d find a kinder balance between competition and cooperation. I’d suggest that because something is good at some scale (eg. owning an apartment) doesn’t mean it’s good at all scales (eg. owning an island).

There are a lot of things I feel cause suffering in the world today. Lots of things that put us precariously off-balance in a way that may cause more suffering in the future. I’d work to change that.

So shouldn’t I be outraged by the fact that the world isn’t changing fast enough?

I choose not to be.

Outraged. Out rage. Raging out.

In my experience, raging out consumes me. It fuels a fire inside of me that slowly burns the best parts of me. My kindness, my deliberate slowness. My ability to stop and smell the flowers. My ability to tell those I love that I love them with a voice that warms their heart. Outrage slowly consumes that.

And for what? It’s not even clear. My attempts at outrage moved me closer to people who feel the same way I do about the world. But they simultaneously isolated me from those whose mind would need to change for the world to evolve in the direction I wish it evolved.

I really hope the current state of the world doesn’t cause you, whose reading this, to personally suffer. If it does, please do not confuse my lack of outrage for an absence of action. This message, and everything I do, I try to do while thinking of people like you. I’m helping, in the best way I can, while staying true to myself, to move the world towards one that could make you happier. I simply refuse to do it while letting my own happiness be consumed by outrage. ❤️
